Undercut

How Undercut scoring works

Undercut scores race picks by how close each predicted finishing position is to the real result. Exact positions score highest, near misses still earn points, fastest lap and bonus picks add weekend color, and standings plus receipts settle the table. All scores are in-app points.

What the scoring model is trying to do

Undercut is a prediction game, not a budget fantasy draft. The default scoring model answers one question: how close were your locked finishing-position calls to the real classification?

Exact hits should feel great. Near misses should still matter—so thoughtful grids beat pure lottery tickets over a season. Large misses keep a small floor under the default model so one wild slot does not always erase a good grid. League admins may override prediction config; always check what your room uses.

Exact-position scoring

When your predicted finishing position matches the real classification exactly, you earn the maximum points for that slot (5 in the default model). Landing three exacts in a top five is a huge weekend; landing one exact in a chaotic race still moves standings.

Near-position scoring

Miss by one place and you still score well (default 4). Miss by two or three and points decay (default 3 then 2). Miss by four or more and you still get a floor (default 1). That design is intentional: private leagues die when scoring feels like pure lottery.

Fastest lap

A correct fastest-lap pick scores +3 under the default model when that slot is enabled. It is a high-skill spice pick—not the whole weekend. Position slots usually decide the table.

Bonus picks and weekend totals

League-configured bonus picks stack on top of position points. Weekend total ≈ position points + fastest lap (if correct) + bonus points. Standings accumulate those weekends. Receipts show the breakdown so the chat can stop arguing about memory.

Three worked examples

Example A — clean night. You nail P1 and P2 exactly, miss P3 by one, and miss P4–P5 by two. Fastest lap wrong, no bonus. Near misses still bank a strong card.

Example B — chaos GP. Safety cars shuffle the midfield. Your P1 is exact, but P2–P5 are a few places off. Floor points plus any bonus hit can still beat an all-or-nothing miss.

Example C — bonus week. Average grid, but you hit two bonus markets and fastest lap. Receipts show the bonus layer clearly.

Fairness principles

  • Shared lock times for everyone in the league
  • Same default rules unless the admin changes config before the weekend
  • Results-driven settlement via receipts
  • No cash prizes on Undercut

Optional Pick Lab (/plus) can review a draft against known classifications before lock; it does not change this default points table. Free league chat (/private-league-chat) keeps the debate beside the scoreboard.
